Adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, Louis Kahn's Salk Institute provides a rare glimpse into his monumental architectural style here on the West Coast. You'd have to go all the way to India or Bangladesh to see some of his better work in person, but we're spoiled- as it's only a few hours away from Los Angeles. I was lucky enough to swing by a few years ago and it was quite immaculate. Unfortunately you need to schedule a proper tour through the institute, so I had to make do with the exterior. I'm not complaining though.
